Dream Time Stories
The indigenous people believed that they had come directly from the Dream Time from their ancestors and that is how they came about living on the land. Dream time stories is a huge aspect in Aboriginal culture and is vital in the early stages of their education. The stories explain to the indigenous people how the land was formed and created, how to behave and why, hoe to use particular art styles and where to find certain foods etc: Every community member would sit around in a circle and the elders would share their dream time stories to the younger children and as they got older more history and culture would get reveled. As they developed their knowledge they then had the responsibility to pass on the stories to the following generations. These stories have been handed down in their community for thousands of years. There are stories about creation of sacred places, land forms people, animals and plants. In more recent times there are stories telling of the arrival of the first Europeans on ships or stories about trading with Macassan fisherman in Northern Australia.
